Monthly Report - August 2002

The Town of Evans Police Department sadly mourns the tragic loss of Police Officer Terry J. Addison who died suddenly on August 14, 2002 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Terry was 32 years old.

  • Nineteen prisoners were held in the Town of Evans Police Lockup in August 2002.

  • One hundred and sixteen Police Reports were filed and twenty-seven accidents were reported to the State of New York as reportable accidents under the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

  • Evans Police Officers issued 314 simplified traffic informations in August of 2002 including:

    Speeding 140
    Seatbelt 36
    DWI Related 12
    License/Permit Violations 25
    Red Lights 8
    Required MV Equipment 8
    Vehicle Registration Violations 12
    Stop Sign 23
    Other 50

    Detective Bureau

  • In August 2002 the Town of Evans Police Detective Bureau investigated numerous car larcenies that occurred in 2 specific areas in the Town. This investigation led to the arrests of 2 juvenile male subjects and 1 16 year-old subject. It was discovered during the course of this investigation that businesses on Routes 5 and 20 in Irving, Chautauqua County, were also victimized by the same subjects. According to Detective Ernest Masullo, $3,000.00 worth of property was recovered. The subjects' mode of transportation was bicycles, stolen property was being carried in backpacks.

  • The Detective Bureau is also investigating 6 residential house burglaries that occurred in late July and during the month of August in the Point Breeze area. To this date 1 juvenile has been charged with 2 counts of burglary in connection with these incidents. The 4 additional burglaries are still being actively investigated.

  • Two cases of construction fraud were investigated. In one case an Evans resident gave a contractor $15,000.00. No work was ever performed. After a police investigation, the money was refunded with no arrest made at the time. In another case of fraud, a plumber from Buffalo was given $1,900.00 as a deposit. No work was ever started. After an investigation, the Buffalo man was charged with grand larceny by false promise. A warrant has been issued for this subject and he is being sought at this time.

    Dog Control

    Twenty-six appearance tickets were issued from the Dog Control Office.
