Personnel

Officer Michael Masullo received the 2001 Stop DWI Award from Erie County at an awards breakfast on May 3rd, 2002, for leading the department in DWI arrests.

Dispatch

Evans Police Dispatchers took 2,018 complaints for the month of May 2002.

  • Twenty prisoners were held in the Town of Evans Police Lockup in May 2002.

  • Ninety-two Police Reports were filed and nineteen accidents were reported to the State of New York as reportable accidents under the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

  • Evans Police Officers issued 338 simplified traffic informations in May of 2002 including:

    License/Permit Violations 21

    Required MV Equipment 27
    Vehicle Registration Violations 15
    Stop Sign 3

    Detective Bureau

  • The Detective Bureau investigated a false bomb incident when a possible bomb was discovered by a mail carrier dropped into a U.S. Postal box along Old Lake Shore Road and Lakeside Drive. Evans Detectives worked with the Postal Inspector and an arrest was made in the case.

  • Two violent assaults resulting in serious injuries were investigated, one occurring outside of Mickey Rats Beach Club and the other on Sturgeon Point Road. The victim of the incident at Mickey Rats was hospitalized in serious condition. The second incident involved 7 youths ages 18 and under, 3 from the Town of Evans and 4 from Hamburg. Arrests are pending in both cases.

  • Eight illegal aliens were apprehended at Sturgeon Point Marina. The subjects were transported by boat from Canada and dropped off at Sturgeon Point Marina where they were apprehended by members of the Evans Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard. The subjects were taken to a Federal holding center in Batavia. Ontario and U.S. Customs made an arrest in the case in Canada.

  • Two sex abuse cases involving children under the age of 14 were investigated by the Detective Bureau in May. One case is still under investigation.

  • Thirty-five people were arrested, mostly for violations of the New York State Penal Law, Alcohol Beverage Control Law and Vehicle and Traffic Law. Five people were arrested for DWI.

    Dog Control

    Twenty-nine appearance tickets were issued from the Dog Control Office.
