Monthly Report - October 2001

The Evans Police Department was notified by the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee that it was awarded a $4,500 grant to participate in the statewide "Buckle Up New York!" campaign. The goal of this campaign is to increase seat belt usage in an effort to reduce serious injury or death from traffic crashes.


Police Officer James Meissner retired in October after 35 years in law enforcement, the last 28 years with the Town of Evans Police Department. Jim will be missed by his department.


Evans Police Dispatchers took 1,948 complaints for the month of October 2001.

  • Thirteen prisoners were held in the Town of Evans Police Lockup in October 2001.

  • One hundred and fourteen Police Reports were filed and forty-two accidents were reported to the State of New York as reportable accidents under the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

  • Evans Police Officers issued 205 simplified traffic informations in October of 2001 including:

    Speeding 106
    Seatbelt 5
    DWI Related 22
    License/Permit Violations 15
    Red Lights 3
    Required MV Equipment 5
    Vehicle Registration Violations 1
    Stop Sign 7
    Other 41

    Detective Bureau

  • Thirty-four people were arrested, mostly for violations of the New York State Penal Law, Alcohol Beverage Control Law and Vehicle and Traffic Law. Eleven people were arrested for DWI.

    Dog Control

    Thirteen appearance tickets were issued from the Dog Control Office.
