A New Look for Evans PD Patrolmen
The Evans Police Department has adopted a new emblem and a new uniform color for patrolmen to start the new year. The dark blue uniform many of us consider as traditional for police officers has been chosen as the Evans Police Department’s new look in time to celebrate 75 years of service to the town.
In the 1960s police officers were wearing grey jodhpur-style breeches with a black stripe, a light grey colored shirt and puttees (leather leggings) known as “putts” along with short boots or shoes. They were still sporting the black and red patch on their shirts and blouse (service coat). In 1968 the uniform changed again to light blue shirts and grey pants and the patch was changed for the first time to a green map of the Town of Evans. This did not prove to be overly popular and was changed again in 1970 to a dark blue background with the New York Seal on it. The look of the Evans Police Department changed again in 1980 when the uniform changed to dark blue pants with a light blue shirt.
