Officer Terry Addison is recognized for his outstanding performance on November 20, 1999, in apprehending a wanted subject known to be a combative drug addict. While waiting for backup, Officer Addison took the subject and vehicle into custody without injury or incident to himself or the subject.

Honorable Mention

Officer Doug Czora received a letter of commendation for his actions on October 1, 1999, which resulted in 2 arrests for criminal possession of stolen property. While off duty, Officer Czora recognized a suspicious looking vehicle and observed two men running and carrying something unknown at the time. Officer Czora telephoned the Police Station and held the two subjects while a police car was en route to the scene. Officer Czora was commended for his diligence and dedication to duty in securing the arrests of the two individuals.

Honorable Mention

Officer Dennis Feldmann received a letter of commendation for his outstanding actions to save the life of a person in custody at the Evans Police Station on September 1, 1999. After several attempts to revive the subject with his oxygen pump failed, Officer Feldmann cleared the subject’s tracheal tube with his hands and forced air into his breathing tube which brought the man back to consciousness.Officer Doug Czora received a letter of commendation for his actions on September 8, 1999, in discovering a Texas fugitive with a stolen vehicle and a 14 year-old runaway from Texas. Officer Czora was commended for his outstanding investigative efforts which resulted in the arrest of the subject and his return to Texas to face charges there, and the juvenile was returned to her parents in Texas.

  • Police Officers Sam Pinto, Bruce Green and Charles Danzi each received a Letter of Appreciation for a job well done while on special detail at the Evans Town Park on August 22, 1999 for the Taste of Evans. The officers were also credited for efficiently handling 2 missing children reports during the event.
  • Officer Bradley DiMartino received a letter of commendation for his quick actions in locating a 4 year old child reported missing from her home on August 25, 1999. Officer DiMartino was credited for checking the area of the highest danger to the child and locating her in a timely manner.
  • Detective Lieutenant Samuel DeJohn received a letter of commendation for his immediate response to activate all available resources to locate a 4 year old child reported missing from her home on August 25, 1999.

Employees of the Month

Officer Dennis Feldmann is named Officer of the Month for his quick actions on April 12, 1999, in saving the life of a woman who suffered a seizure and was unable to move. Upon arrival at a Welfare Check call, Officer Feldmann observed the victim through a window lying unresponsive on the living room floor. He then kicked in the door and entered the house to render assistance. He immediately called for an ambulance and brought in first aid equipment from his vehicle. Upon the arrival of his duty Lieutenant, Officer Feldmann was administering oxygen to the victim. As reported by his Lieutenant – “Officer Feldmann’s actions were well beyond the normal bedside manner of our officers, his attitude and his caring actions were exemplary in helping this woman who did survive this incident…”


Officer Douglas Czora is named Officer of the Month for his excellent judgement and investigative actions which resulted in solving a burglary on April 17, 1999. Patrolman Czora’s investigation resulted in the arrest of a subject who was charged with burglary 3rd and petit larceny. Officer Czora is commended for outstanding performance and dedication to duty.

Detective Bureau

  • The Detective Bureau reports that the afternoon shift investigated a robbery on March 29, 1999, from the Ames Plaza Liquor store in Derby. A subject entered the store and purchased an item when a store clerk noticed a bottle of liquor in his pocket. When the clerk questioned the subject he ran from the store. He was apprehended after a short pursuit by the clerk and the thief did fight with him then fled away on foot. Patrol officers did immediately investigate and were able to identify the robber. An unsuccessful search was conducted in the Highland/Derby area for him but did later obtain an arrest warrant through Evans Court. This subject was later picked up and charged with a felony robbery. He is presently awaiting court action and it should be noted that the subject is presently on probation for having committed other larceny and drug related offenses.

The New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law, Section 1180-f states no person shall drive a vehicle through a highway construction or maintenance work area in excess of the posted work area speed limit. Please give our construction workers a break and obey these posted speed limits. The law states they can be enforced any time the signs are in place.

**** Evans Police Honor Richard Berst ****

The Town of Evans Police Department presented Richard Berst with a plaque for Outstanding Bravery for holding on to his friend who had fallen into a hole in the ice on Lake Erie on January 14, 1999. Richard is credited with staying with his friend until rescue crews arrived and successfully saved them both.

Detective Bureau

The Detective Bureau investigated three separate counts of forgery in February 1999 involving forged bills. The cases involved the use of copies of different denomination of bills which were passed at local businesses. The fake bills appear to have been made with a computer scanner.

At this time, two people have been charged with felony possession of a forged instrument. The U.S. Secret Service is assisting with the investigation.The Detective Bureau investigated 56 incidents including:
