Monthly Report – November 2008

The Evans Police Department has put into service a License Plate Reader (LPR) which was purchased in part with a New York State grant received through the efforts of Senator Dale Volker. All officers are trained in the use of the LPR and have been very successful in the operation of the new equipment.

Commendations

  • Lt. Masullo and Dispatcher Dalton received a letter of appreciation on October 29, 2008 for reporting a possible officer safety issue.
  • Detective Czora received a letter of commendation on November 3, 2008 for outstanding police work in the investigation and arrest of the person responsible for a burglary which occurred in October 2007.

Personnel

  • Chief of Police Samuel V. DeJohn retired from the Evans Police Department on August 22, 2008, after 36 years of dedicated service to the Town of Evans.
  • Chief of Police Ernest Masullo was appointed effective August 23, 2008.
  • Patrick Atler was appointed full-time police officer at the August 13, 2008 Town Board meeting.
  • Gregory Szarowicz was appointed part-time police officer at the August 13, 2008 Town Board meeting.

Commendations

  • Lt. D. HepkinsPatrolman T. Crupe and Patrolman M. Kauzala received a letter of commendation for outstanding performance on August 6, when responding with the Marine Unit to a call of a disabled vessel in Lake Erie.
  • Patrolman B. Green received a letter of recognition for outstanding police work in the investigation and arrest of the person responsible for stealing copper wire from the Norfolk and Southern railroad tracks on August 31.

Monthly Report – May 2008

Grant Awards

  • Through the efforts of NYS Assemblyman Jack Quinn, the Evans Police Department has received discretionary funding in the amount of $5,000 to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and accessories to be placed in patrol vehicles as first responders.
  • Through the efforts of NYS Senator Dale Volker, the Evans Police Department has received notification of a Legislative Initiative grant in the amount of $4,000, also to be used to purchase AEDs and accessories. Most of our patrol vehicles will be equipped with AEDs thanks to the efforts of our NYS representatives.
  • Senator Dale Volker also has provided financial assistance to the Evans Police Department by reallocating $35,000 in Edward Byrne Memorial Formula Grant award money for the Evans Police Department to purchase a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system and a new police vehicle. The LPR is an automatic license plate reader that can tell an officer immediately whether a vehicle has been listed as stolen or has an invalid plate. The software also will register whether the vehicle’s driver might be wanted by law enforcement for a crime, a warrant or another reason, as well as missing persons and Amber alerts.
